I see you and I used to be you. Sometimes I still am on my really difficult days.
Here’s what you can’t do:
- Please everyone
- Make everyone happy
- Be perfect
- Hold it all together
- Never make a mistake
- Never break down
- Never rest
Yeah, that was me. I was a people pleaser to the Nth degree. I wanted everyone to like me and I avoided conflict just like people still try to avoid Covid exposure. I somehow figured if I appeared perfect I’d gain mass approval. LOL. The opposite happened.
At work, I busted my butt. At home, I did more stuff for work, mostly ignored housework, AND I fell apart in unhealthy ways. The people I loved the most suffered the most, including my friends who I barely contacted and my sweet classroom roommate because I told her way too much. And she still loves me. THAT’S a good friend right there!
Believe me, I’m not putting myself down. I’m exposing the truth of how my life was in order to help someone (or someones) out of their pit.
If anything I’ve written resonates, you are NOT ALONE.
Here’s what you can do:
- Be a peacemaker
- Choose joy despite your circumstances
- Be perfectly imperfect…in other words, your authentic self
- Let go of the control that you really don’t have anyway
- Own and learn from your mistakes
- Cry sometimes
- Rest
Trust me, this is a journey, not a destination…yet. I have a LONG way to go, but I’m so thankful that I’m not stuck in my pit anymore.
I see you. I used to be you. I sometimes still am you. I’m rooting for you. You are NOT alone. You’ve got this…whatever your “this” is.
You are loved and covered in prayer.
